This Thursday, Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield in the UEFA Europa League round of 16. The Reds will want to turn things around after a poor performance against West Brom this past Sunday.
Louis van Gaal has an impressive record against the club from merseyside and with that, he will hope for another vicotry come Thursday evening.
Several players are still sidelined with injury. Most notably the skipper Wayne Rooney and German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. As well as this, United have played three games since their last Europa League game two weeks ago so certain members of the squad may need a rest.
With this being said, who is likely to be in the starting XI for Thursday evenings game?
A few different faces may be seen in the back five
Sergio Romero is set to replace David De Gea in goal, Romero is used mainly as a 'cup' keeper now unless De Gea is injured. Guillermo Varela is set for a return at right back after a poor performance from Matteo Darmian against West Brom. Chris Smalling and Daley Blind are to remain in the centre of defence.
At left back we are set to see Marcos Rojo start. With Cameron Borthwick-Jackson not that close to a return the Argentine has been called upon to play on the left side as of late.
The return of Marouane Fellaini could spell trouble for the reds, as they are set to rest the energetic Ander Herrera as well as keep Morgan Schneiderlin on the bench. They could play the slow paced duo of Fellaini and veteran Michael Carrick.
After he saw red against West Brom, Juan Mata is set to be used by van Gaal, who won't be able to pick him for Sunday's FA Cup tie against West Ham.. 20 year old Andreas Pereira is set to replace the 27 year old spanish number 10. Memphis is set to return on the wing, however, on the right side rather than his favoured left side after not starting against West Brom. Adnan Januzaj is unavilable having played for Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on loan.
Rashford could be dropped for vital clash
After a good set of perfromances, 18-year-old Marcus Rashford is set to be rested, whilst Frenchman Anthony Martial is set to move from the wing to a more fimiliar position as the sole striker.
