Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has admitted that he struggles with support and confidence issues in an interview while with the Dutch national team during the international break.
In an interview with Dutch paper De Telegraaf, Memphis stated that the support and confidence he receives from manager Danny Blind is only, "sometimes," given to him while at Old Trafford.
Confidence with United is lacking
When asked if the level of support he receives from Netherlands coach Danny Blind is reciprocated at Manchester United, Memphis simply stated, "sometimes."
He stated that he has had talks with, "people inside the club," about the lack of support he receives and that manager Louis van Gaal, "knew about this."
Despite impressive performances against Club Brugge and FC Midtjylland Memphis has not started a game since giving away a penalty against Liverpool in the Europa League. He also did not feature on the team sheet in the return league against Liverpool, despite United being in a desperate need of goals to continue their continental campaign.
No desire to leave United
Despite the rocky first season he is enduring, Memphis made sure that there was little doubt to where his loyalties lay. After admitting that he desires more support while in Manchester, he was firm in stating, "I do not want to leave."
The Dutch international has thus far tallied seven goals against 39 appearances for United, compared to 28 goals in 40 appearances for PSV last year.
Blind knows Memphis can make World Cup impact
While his club form has been spotty this season, Memphis has a level of confidence that he is still the same player that tore up the Eredivisie just one year prior - and he attributes this to confidence.
Memphis stated that, "Coach [Blind] gives me confidence," which is important for a young player such as himself. He added that Blind, "knows my qualities," and that he knew, "I can come in handy at any World Cup."
Ahead of Friday's international friendly with France in Amsterdam Memphis has thus far picked up 20 caps, and bagged three goals for the Oranje.
