Manchester United great Jaap Stam wants to take youngster Tyler Blackett on loan from his former club to Championship outfit Reading.

Stam took over at Reading and vowed to bring a more attacking style of football back to the side, as they look to build on their finish last season.

The new Reading boss is in the transfer market this summer for a left-sided defender, and he believes the United youngster is the right player for his side.

Youngster will develop further

Blackett made his breakthrough on the Old Trafford scene back in the 2014-15 season under former boss Louis van Gaal, who won the FA Cup last season in what turned out to be his final season in charge.

However, he failed to make an impact last season, and also during his loan spell with Scottish Premiership side Celtic.

Stam signed for United back in 1998 and went on to make 79 appearances in all competitions during his four seasons, before moving to Lazio.

And it is reported that the former Dutch international wants to take him to the Madejski Stadium next season.

Blackett will get valuable game time

It is also reported that the Red Devils are keen on making it happening as they want the youngster to get more game time, and that’s what will happen under Stam at Reading.

Stam won six trophies during his time at Old Trafford and will forever be remembered as one of their greatest defenders.

The Dutchman has a very limited budget at the Madejski, and there are other options on Stam’s list of players that he wants to sign.

Slovenia international forward Tim Matavz is one player and former Heerenveen midfielder Joey van den Berg is another that Stam wishes to sign.

Reading have rejected offers for star player Aaron Tshibola from Premier League club Crystal Palace and Championship sides Aston Villa and Norwich City.
