Manchester City’s new midfield signing Ilkay Gundogan believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be a very good signing for Manchester United. The Armenian international joined United on a four year deal after passing his medical on Thursday.

Gundogan shared the dressing room with Mkhitaryan for last three years at Borussia Dortmund, and the German midfielder believes that Mkhitaryan will add a lot of quality to United. Mkhitaryan rejected a contract offer at Dortmund, which forced the Germans to sell him as he entered in the last year of his current contract.

Mkhitaryan is a terrific player when confident

Mkhitaryan enjoyed a brilliant season for Dortmund last year as he scored 23 goals and 32 assists in all competitions. The Armenian was voted as the players player of the year in Bundesliga, after a remarkable turnaround following two difficult years. Gundogan admitted that "the first two years were not so easy for him".

Gundogan believes that “he's a player who needs self-confidence, who needs to play every time and prove himself to get better and better.” Mkhitaryan was able to flourish under Thomas Tuchel after initially struggling under Jurgen Klopp. The German midfielder further added, regarding the difficult times, that “at this time, we were not so successful, so it was not easy for him to adapt. He had a few problems.”

The Armenian will have impact at United

Gundogan also admitted that “when you see how he played last year, it was really incredible. Maybe he was the most important player for us last year.” Mkhitaryan is most likely to play on the right flank and solve United’s issue at the right hand side of the attack.

The Armenian captain became Jose Mourinho’s third signing at Manchester United. The new City signing also stated that "if he can go on like this, he will have a big, big impact for Manchester United, and a big plus.” Mkhitaryan will face his former side in United’s first game on their tour of China.
