When it was confirmed that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson would be playing his football elsewhere throughout the 16/17 season many fans quickly speculated about his long-term future, however, Jose Mourinho sending the talented academy graduate out on loan suggests he'll be expected back at Manchester United next season after gaining Championship first team football.
During an exclusive interview after signing for Wolves, Borthwick-Jackson made it clear that he was simply there to 'gain as much first team experience as possible' because his main aim is to 'go back to United in a years time and challenge for a spot in the team.'
When asked if there had been any contact with Jose Mourinho he revealed that the Portugese manager promised him that he has a 'big future' at United which squashed all rumours about Mourinho not giving youth players a chance after also giving teenage sensation Marcus Rashford a new long-term deal in the summer.
It was also later revealed that Manchester United do in fact have a recall clause in the contract which means that the young defender could still play in the famous red shirt this season if he is desperately needed, however fans and the heirachy at United will be hoping that this term will be more injury-free now that van Gaal's ridiculously high intensity drills have been somewhat vanquished.
Cameron's Story So Far:
A horrific injury to United's first-choice left-back Luke Shaw early on in last season's short-lived Champions League journey meant that Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind were the only other recognised left-backs in the squad however with Blind forming a strong centre-half partnership with Chris Smalling it was unlikely that the manager would want to massively change things about.
Louis van Gaal finally called on the Manchester-born full-back to make the huge step up into the first-team when West Bromwich Albion visited Old Trafford in early September last year and after impressing the home crowd off the bench in a 2-0 win he went on to make a further 13 appearances for the Reds during the 15/16 season.
Borthwick-Jackson's impressive performances for the United first-team and Warren Joyce's title winning Under 21 side earned him the 'Under 21 Player of the Year award' in May and to top it all off he was awarded a new four-year contract by new manager Jose Mourinho which would keep him in the red side of Manchester until at least the June of 2020.
