Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong has already impressed during his first three games on-loan at Sky Bet League One side Coventry City.

The 18-year-old who has joined Coventry on a youth loan until January 16 2016, has scored five goals in his opening three games for the League One outfit and has already received praise from Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray.

A stunning start at Coventry

The Newcastle youngster scored both goals on his debut in Coventry's 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the season. He then added another two in the 4-0 victory at Millwall last Saturday before scoring his fifth goal of the season against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night.

The goal which has drawn special attention is Armstrong's opening goal against Millwall. The 18-year-old picked up the ball 35-yards out from goal, he spotted Millwall's goalkeeper David Forde off his line and produced a brilliantly judged chip to score the first of his two goals at The Den.

Armstrong struggled to break into the Newcastle first-team under John Carver but new head coach Steve McClaren, who gave young English talent a chance during his spell in charge at Derby County, may give him an opportunity in the first-team once he returns to St. James' Park, if he continues his early season form.

Newcastle have a 24-hour recall in the loan contract and asked Coventry not to play Armstrong in the League Cup.

His career so far

Armstrong is a lifelong Newcastle United supporter and joined the club at the age of nine before progressing through the club's academy.

The teenager won the club's 'Wor Jackie' award in 2014, the award is awarded to the best young player of the year and is named after former Newcastle United player Jackie Milburn. In 14 appearances in the Under-21 Premier League last season, Armstrong scored 11 goals.

Armstrong was named among Newcastle's substitutes for the first time in January 2014 for a Premier League game against Norwich City. He made his senior debut as an 86th-minute substitute in March 2014, replacing Luuk de Jong, in Newcastle's Premier League defeat to Fulham. At such a young age, Armstrong has gone on to make 15 appearances for Newcastle to date.

He started his first game for the Magpies in a League Cup tie against Crystal Palace in September 2014. Newcastle won the match 3-2 in extra-time with Armstrong assisting two of Newcastle's goals.

The striker enjoyed a blistering start to his international career, scoring nine goals in his first eleven appearances for England under-16s and under-17s. He went onto make 12 appearances for the under-17 side, scoring 10 goals, including two at the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championships in Malta; however he missed the final through injury.

He has also represented England at under-18 level and has scored eight goals in nine appearances.

Praise from Tony Mowbray

Following Armstrong's impressive start to the season, Coventry manager Tony Mowbray said "whoever's playing for Newcastle must be a hell of a player to keep this kid out of the team", after he struggled to break into the Newcastle first-team under John Carver.

The former West Bromwich Albion, Celtic and Middlesbrough manager added "I've managed in the Premier League and the defenders are all quick and massive. It's a different kettle of fish but we're delighted to have him here.

"We have to be careful not to build him up into something he's not, but he's added what has been missing from the team for a long time." Mowbray said, however it is important that "we keep his feet on the ground."
