Norwich City have completed the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Jonás Gutiérrez on a six-month loan deal. The transfer was confirmed on the club's official Twitter account and will see the Argentinean become the club's first signing in the January transfer window. Gutiérrez rejoins former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, who was sacked by club owner Mike Ashley in December 2012 and replaced with current boss Alan Pardew.

The Argentina international spoke of his delight to have arrived at Carrow Road. He said:

"I'm happy to be here. It's an opportunity for me to get back in the game and to try and do my best for the team."

"Personally I want to do the right things on the pitch and win my place, and then for the team we want to finish as high as we can. It's a tough league, all of the games are difficult, but we have a good opportunity."

Gutíerrez featured in Newcastle's opening day defeat to Manchester City away at the Etihad, before suffering a hamstring injury. It sidelined him for nearly a month and returned against Cardiff City in Wales to help the Toons to a 2-1 victory, coming on after 71 minutes. He has only been in Pardew's full 18 since 5 October once, when Newcastle overturned David Moyes' Manchester United, but recently played in an U21 Premier League game against Norwich on 20 December last year.
