Southampton youngsters Jack Stephens and Jason McCarthy have continued their development by joining Coventry City and extending a loan at Wycombe Wanderers respectively until the end of the season.

Second chance for Stephens

This will be Stephens' second loan of the season having spent the first half of the campaign with high-flying Middlesbrough, but he found playing time hard to come by in the Championship and so returned to his parent club.

Now, Stephens heads to League One to join Tony Mowbray's men until the end of the season. After returning from his loan spell, Stephens made four appearances for Southampton's under-21s, building something of an understanding with 18-year-old Alfie Jones.

Nothing new for Stephens

Stephens played in League One last season for Swindon Town and played an important role in helping them reach the play-off final, which they lost 4-0 to Preston North End at Wembley in May.

It was his first loan deal of his professional career, and he enjoyed playing alongside follow academy graduate Jordan Turnball at the heart of the defence, with the latter still out on loan at the club.

Plenty of chances to face old friends

There is a chance that Stephens may come up against some members of the Saints academy also plying their trade in League One, as Lloyd Isgrove's Barnsley and Turnball's Swindon have both still got to play Coventry in the run-in to the end of the season.

Forwards Ryan Seager and Sam McQueen are both in League One as well, but won't come up against Stephens before the end of the season. The 22-year-old may make his debut this Sunday when Coventry travel to Port Vale in an important match between two play-off contenders.

McCarthy extends loan

Jason McCarthy has opted to extend his loan with League Two side Wycombe until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has made 20 appearances for the League Two outfit since joining last October, scoring two goals and helping them to eighth in the current table.

Wanderers are just one point shy of the play-off places, with games in hand on the teams around them. He has played in a number of different positions since being at the club across the defence and midfield, and even as a goalkeeper.

Wycombe's next game sees them come up against Luton Town at Adams Park and McCarthy is likely to be involved.
