Southampton host Liverpool this weekend as the Premier League enters the final stretch of the season. The hosts look to back up their win against Stoke last weekend with another this sunday against an inform Liverpool side.

Great game lies ahead

The match at St Mary's is setting up to be a fabulous occasion between two teams with each vying for a European place for next season. The Saints will hope to continue their European push, whilst the visitors aim to finish the season strongly. The crucial battle you sense will be how well Southampton's back line are able to cope with Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho all of whom have been in great form of late. The meeting earlie in the season at Anfield saw the Saints strike late to grab a deserved point thanks to Sadio Mane.

Roger East record

Roger East has taken charge of three Southampton games so far this season and in those games they beat Swansea City 3-1 and lost to Manchester City 3-1. He has officiated in 19 matches so far this season and has given out 54 yellows and just the two reds in those matches.

Last season he dished out over 100 yellow cards and across the past few seasons has been one of the better refs in the division since his introduction to the league in 2012. His most recent match in which he officiated was a couple of weeks ago when he was in charge of Bournemouth's 3-2 win over Swansea City where he largely had a quiet afternoon as he only gave out the one yellow card to Bournemouth's Dan Gosling.

Fourth season

East is in his fourth season on the circuit in the Premier League and since doing his first match in 2012 he has improved quite significantly and gets a game most weekends. Whilst he is still nowhere near the standards of the top Premier League ref's he isn’t too far away from them. If he can get a regular slot it won’t be long before he is one of the best in the league.
