Southampton International round-up: Mixed day for Southampton stars

There were just two Southampton players whose teams were in international action over the course of Sunday, with Victor Wayama and Cuco Martina the two players who were in action for their respective countries.

Wanyama was named as captain as his Kenya side fell to another defeat in qualification for next year’s African Cup of Nations.

Martina was also captain of his side as Curaçao came out on the winning side earlier today in a Caribbean Cup qualifying match in the early hours.

Wanyama's Kenya lose again

The Kenyan's were playing at home against Guinea-Bissau and came out narrow losers by just the 1-0 goal in Nairobi.

Both sides met earlier in the week and it was the same score line on that occasion as Kenya once more struggled to breakdown a stern defence.

Given both results Kenya can no longer qualify for next year’s tournament and will now be just playing for pride in their final matches which take place at the end of this season.

The winning goal for the away side came late on in the 81st minute as Germano Mendes gave the away side the lead.

Wanyama had his side’s best effort but he could only hit the post with a great strike from just outside the box as it was a frustrating afternoon for the Kenyan side.

Curacao back on track

Right-back, Martina led his side to a much needed victory beating Dominican Republic earlier this morning 2-1.

After losing their opening match it was vital for the team to get the win something which they achieved in the 81st minute the goal coming from Felitciano Zschusschen.

That result could be enough to see them through to the next stage but, it will depend on the outcome of the game between Dominican Republic's and Barbados as to whether they will go through to the next stage or not.
