Stoke City have had a bid accepted for Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Sky Sports.

The news source are reporting that Stoke have had a £12million bid accepted by Serie A outift Inter Milan for the 23-year-old.

Shaqiri only joined Inter in January of this year, leaving Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich after failing to establish himself in the first team, constantly on the fringes instead and being a regular substitute.

Shaqiri is a wanted man in England

Liverpool have been linked with the forward for the best part of the last 12 months, but Inter beat them to the player's signature in six months ago and the Reds have sinced moved on, signing Roberto Firmino earlier this summer from 1899 Hoffenheim.

Instead, Merseyside rivals Everton have been chasing Shaqiri in the current transfer window, but have lost out to Stoke it seems as the Swiss international now looks to agree personal terms with the club ahead of making a switch to the Britannia.

Since joining Inter, Shaqiri has made 20 appearances, scoring just three goals but registering six assists. However, with him not fulfilling the expectations that the club had of him, they seem happy to let him go if they are to get their £12 million back which they bought him for six months ago.

Shaqiri's career so far

Shaqiri started his career with FC Basel in his home country of Switzerland. He joined their youth set up at the age of 10 before making his debut for the first team at 18-years-old in 2009.

The 2009-10 season was his breakthrough as the then teenager made 47 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals. Two more impressive campaigns in Switzerland earned him a call-up to his nation's senior team, and his performances also attracted the interest of clubs around Europe, with Bayern Munich paying just over £8 million to secure his services in 2012.

He has an impressive trophy haul

He left Basel having won the Swiss Super League in his three seasons with them, as well as the Swiss Cup on two occasions, making a total of 130 appearances and scoring 23 goals. He would win an even greater amount of silverware in Munich in his three years with the club; two Bundesliga titles, the DFL-Supercup, the DFB-Pokal twice, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup all honours Shaqiri can boast. He played 81 games and scoring 17 goals during his time in Germany.

Shaqiri has yet to settle down at a club and really shine again like he did at Basel, and will hope for some stability in this new chapter of his career, if he can agree a deal with Stoke, that is.
