Stoke City are currently in the process of trying to persuade Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri to sign for them, but fear that he could snub any contract offer.

The Potters had a club record bid of £12 million accepted for the Swiss winger on Tuesday, but now face the difficult task of convincing him to join.

Hope for Stoke?

It is understood that Shaqiri is open to the possibility of moving away from Inter, who he joined just 12 months ago upon leaving Bayern Munich, but is yet to be convinced about a move to Stoke.

Wages aren't a problem, with the Midlands club easily being able to match or increase Shaqiri's current wages, which said to be around £60,000 per week.

A potential stumbling block

However, the player is of the belief that he can do better than Stoke, and he may prefer to wait for a bigger club to come in.

Something that will go in Stoke's favour is their history of progress, as they have established themselves as a top half Premier League club, by finishing 9th in consecutive seasons.

Shaqiri could see Stoke as a stepping stone to get regular football in a high profile league, where his talents will be viewed around the world on a weekly basis. He may also relish the opportunity to work with Mark Hughes, due the former Welsh manager's superb playing history.

The fans' view

Stoke fans will be hoping that this isn't a repeat of last summer, where Shaqiri rejected them to join Inter on a loan deal, which was made permanent in January.

They'll be hoping that he does make the move to England, so he can form an frontline alongside Bojan, Mame Biram Diouf and new signing Joselu, one with potential to be one of the most potent in the land.
