Marko Arnautovic's goal was enough to earn Stoke City three points against Aston Villa and a second successive Premier League win but what did we learn?

1. Potters enjoy playing at Villa Park

Stoke's win was their third consecutive victory at Villa Park, with the 1-0 victory on Saturday following the 2-1 win last season and the 4-1 success in 2013/14.

The victory also stretched the club's unbeaten away run against Aston Villa to six matches, a run extending back to 2009.

2. Things are starting to come together for Stoke City

Stoke City caught the eye of many people during the summer with the signings of Xherdan Shaqiri, Ibrahim Afellay and Glen Johnson. However, six games without a win in the league did not match the pre-season optimism.

Things look to be starting to come together now after back-to-back Premier League wins against AFC Bournemouth and now Aston Villa and three successive victories in all competitions.

The international break has perhaps come at the wrong time for the Potters after they have gained some momentum but Mark Hughes will be hoping his side continue their good form following the international break against Swansea City on Monday 19 October.

3. Arnautovic does like playing away from home

Marko Arnautovic was Stoke's best player on Saturday. The Austrian was involved in all of Stoke's attacking play and provided the one moment of real quality to earn the Potters three points.

His goal against Aston Villa was his seventh Premier League goal, since joining the Potters from Werder Bremen in 2013. Five of his seven league goals and six out of nine in all competitions have come away from home.

The winger was perhaps unfortunate to have a goal disallowed in the first-half after he looked to be level with the last defender before volleying past Brad Guzan in the Villa goal.

4. Stoke's defence hold firm

The victory saw Jack Butland and the Potters record their first clean sheet in the league this season.

Not only did Stoke stay solid at the back, but right-back Glen Johnson also got forward and assisted Arnautovic's goal in his 400th career appearance in club football. The former West Ham United, Chelsea, Portsmouth and Liverpool player has now assisted the winning goal in both of his last two matches.

5. Adam almost does it again

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam scored one of the goals of the season last season when he scored a wonder goal against Chelsea in April. He collected the ball inside his own half and lobbed Thibaut Courtois from 65-yards out.

The Scotland international almost did it again on Saturday. However, Guzan managed to scramble back to tip Adam's left-footed effort, from deep inside his own half, around the post.
