According to reports from HITC Sport, Sunderland are amongst a few Premier League clubs who are interested in 1899 Hoffenheim defender Luis Advincula.

The 25-year-old Peruvian, who was impressive during his native country's third-placed finish in the recent Copa América tournament, has been heavily linked with a move to England - in the top flight.

Nearing a move to the Premier League?

He is contracted with the Bundesliga side at the moment, but his future remains uncertain, as he has only featured in a few matches for the club. He was elsewhere on respective loan spells over the past three seasons, and ended the 2014/15 campaign with Liga Portuguesa side Vitoría Setubal

If a deal was to be struck with the Wearside club, he'd become the side's fifth signing of the summer. Sebastian Coates (Liverpool), Adam Matthews (Celtic), Jeremain Lens (Dynamo Kiev) and Younes Kaboul (Tottenham) have all joined Dick Advocaat's ranks thus far.

Attracting plenty of interest in top flight

Meanwhile, other clubs are interested in his services. Stoke City, Southampton, Swansea City and West Ham are all eyeing a possible move for him - who has shown versatility in the fact he can play in both defence and midfield.

Out of the teams mentioned, if he had to choose - he'd probably go for either the Saints or the Hammers. Both are in the UEFA Europa League qualification rounds, the latter of which have already started their competitive fixtures. They beat FC Lusitans in their opening qualifier, and have a slender one-goal lead intact after their last-gasp victory over Birkirkara FC yesterday evening.

Advincula, who was reportedly set for talks with West Ham - is predominantly a right-back, but can play across at left-back and also on the wing. Carl Jenkinson re-joined the east Londoners on another year long loan spell from Arsenal, having signed a new five-year contract extension with the Gunners.
