Premier League side Swansea City are set to launch a bid for Steven Fletcher from fellow top-flight side Sunderland.

Swans boss Gary Monk is looking to add more bodies to his attacking line, with the coach planning to launch a £4million bid for the Scottish international.

The Black Cats are looking to cash in on the 28-year-old, who cost them £12m back in 2012 bringing him from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as he enters his final year of his contract on Wearside.

Fletcher was successful in his first season at the Stadium of Light with 11 goals, including a brace on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Swansea. However, recurring ankle problems have stagnated his career in the North-East.

Competition

Swansea aren't the only club that are believed to be to be interested in the striker, with Scottish Premier League champions Celtic believed to have thrown their hat into the ring earlier in the summer. However, assistant manager at the Scottish club, John Collins has insisted that they can’t afford his wages.

Fletcher was named earlier in the week as one of the four players who are reportedly close to an exit from Sunderland as Coach Dick Advocaat looks to reduce the wage bill, to help bringing in some fresh faces with Advocaat still looking to bring in an attacking midfielder and a striker.

Other possible exits?

The other names on the list include midfielders; Will Buckley and Liam Bridcutt and former Swansea striker Danny Graham.

Bridcutt and Buckley have failed to really impress since they were both brought in from Brighton by former manager Gus Poyet for £2.5m in January and August 2014 respectively.

In the nine games that Advocaat took charge of at the end of the 2014/15 season, Buckley made two appearances with Bridcutt just making the one. They have been linked with a move back down to the Sky Bet Championship with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby interested.
