Premier League side Swansea City have played down rumours that they will be making a move from Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher.

It was reported over the weekend that the Welsh outfit were plotting a £4m bid for the Scottish international, who currently has one year left on his contract at the Stadium of Light.

Who will make up the Swans strikeforce?

It was also reported that they were interested in bringing current Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor to the Liberty Stadium,  but manager Gary Monk has insisted that they are not interested in bringing a new striker in.

Instead, Monk is planning to put his faith in French forward Bafetimbi Gomis and new summer signing Eder to lead his forward. Gomis was a revelation in the second half of 2014/15 season after the £24m departure of Wilfred Bony to Manchester City whilst Eder has been brought in from Sporting Braga for £5m as the Ivorian’s replacement.

Scottish champions Celtic were also reportedly interested in bringing the 28-year-old to Celtic Park, but the club pulled out of the race as the cost to cover the former Wolves man’s wages was too much.

Other Sunderland offloads?

Fletcher is one of four player’s manager Dick Advocaat is reportedly ready to let leave Wearside to free up the wage bill allowing more fresh faces to come in with the Dutchman still keen to bring in another striker and an attacking midfielder to his squad.

Danny Graham, Liam Bridcutt and Will Buckley are the other three players believed to be near the exit door at the Black Cat’s with the latter two been linked with a move back down to the Sky Bet Championship with Derby and Sheffield Wednesday linked respectively.

These rumours of a move for Adebayor and Fletcher triggered the possibility that Gomis might on the move from Liberty Stadium this summer.

Monk did admit that the Dubai club Al-Ahli had made an approach with a suggestion that there was a £6m release clause in his contract, but Monk went on to say that wasn’t the case.
