Leroy Fer and Yann M'Vila will complete moves to Sunderland this week, according to the Guardian.

The Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat has made no secret of his desire to bolster the team's midfield this summer, and he looks set to do this before the Premier League season gets underway this weekend, his side travelling to the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Leicester City in their opening game.

Reports implied that the Dutchman was looking to bring Tottenham Hotspur's Moussa Dembele to the Stadium of Light, but those rumours have died down recently and now it is understood that M'Vila and Fer will both be joining up with Sunderland's squad this week instead.

M'Vila desperate for a move

M'Vila currently plays his football with Rubin Kazan in Russia, but a fall-out between him and the club means he spent last season on loan with Internazionale and was supposed to be joining Dynamo Moscow on a temporary basis for the coming campaign.

However, Sunderland have swooped in and hijacked the proposed loan move, and it is believed that M'Vila, keen to get off of Kazan's books after the dispute with them, is now set to have a medical on Wearside tomorrow ahead of a permanent move to the Premier League.

The Frenchman cost the Russian club £10 million when he joined them from Rennes in 2013, so he is expected to cost Sunderland a similar fee, especially with two years remaining on his current contract.

M'Vila primarily operates in the holding midfield role and would help protect a shaky defence that Sunderland has become infamous for in recent years.

Fer set for loan deal

Fer, on the other hand, will join the Black Cats on a season-long loan from recently-relegated Queens Park Rangers. The Dutchman completed a similar move last year, joining QPR from Norwich City after they were relegated to the Championship in order to keep his place in the Netherlands' national team, but that was a permanent deal worth £8 million.

QPR are looking to trim down their expensive wage bill and offloading Fer, even on a temporary basis, will help them do this, whilst also helping Sunderland bolster their midfield with a physical presence who scores goals too.

Could a striker follow?

With Connor Wickham set to complete a £7 million move to Crystal Palace, a fee that will rise to £9 million if they stay up, Advocaat has funds available and will also be looking to add another striker to his squad this summer.

Moussa Sow has been linked with a move from Fenerbahce, whilst Rennes' Ola Toivonen is also a reported target, a man who previously worked with Advocaat at PSV Eindhoven. Yet, the French club insist that no bids have been made for their Swedish player.
