Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has shared his relief that the transfer window has closed.

Last minute deals

The Black Cats made their eighth, and final, signing on Tuesday's deadline day, bringing in right-back DeAndre Yedlin on loan from fellow top-flight side Tottenham Hotspur.

Overall it has been a very positive transfer window for the North-East side. especially in the past week with the loan captures of Yedlin, Ola Toivonen and the permanent deal for Fabio Borini who moved from Liverpool for a fee of £7.75million.

Deals fell through

It has also been a difficult window in other cases with a number of deals falling at the last hurdle, with the deal for Queens Park Rangers' Leroy Fer being a prime example.

Advocaat shared his relief saying that since the July 1 when the window opened, there have been “many deals” that have been “on-off, on-off” and every day from the beginning have been “different answers” from “different players”.

Fer is just one of several deals that have fallen through in the latter stages with the Belgian internationals Adnan Januzaj and Jason Denayer both looking to be heading to the Stadium of Light but going elsewhere to the Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund and Turkish Super Lig’s Galatasaray respectively.

Sunderland were also forced to draw the line over the deal for Jonathan de Guzman with the Napoli player dragging his heels over a move to the North of England, Zenit St Petersburg’s Nicolas Lombaerts, like Fer, failed a medical ahead of his proposed move.

Now that the window has slammed shut, Advocaat can work with his side through the international break to continue their uprise after their very poor start to the season.

After their appalling defeats to Leicester City and Norwich City respectively they have remain unbeaten in the last three matches with a victory over Exeter City in the Capital One Cup and draws against Swansea City and Aston Villa in the league.

After the international break, Sunderland will host Tottenham on Sunday, September 13.
