Boston United have signed Dylan McEvoy, the club have confirmed.

The Sunderland youngster has joined the National League North side on an initial one month work experience loan, with the club able to extend his spell if he impresses on York Street.

Boston hoping for impact from youngster

Boston currently sit 11th in the standings, with 16 points from their first 12 games. Having conceded 21 goals in those opening dozen fixtures, they will hope that McEvoy can help sure things up at the back with his versatility.

The 18-year-old is a natural central midfielder, but is not unfamiliar to left-back and left-midfield roles, having played in various positions for the under-21s and under-18s on Wearside.

Technically gifted with great strength, the youngster will hope that the loan spell is productive for himself too, with it his first in his professional career.

Sunderland links benefiting non-league outfit

Boston will not be a team unknown to McEvoy, despite them playing in the sixth tier of English football, as they are a club who have special links with Sunderland, and have thus loaned numerous players from the Stadium of Light over the last few years.

The versatile youngster is in fact the seventh player to make the switch from Wearside to York Street on a temporary basis in the past three seasons, following appearances from Liam Marrs, Liam Agnew, David Ferguson, Joel Dixon, Tom McNamee and Max Stryjek.

McEvoy is eligble to make his debut for the Pilgrims in today's home fixture against Telford United, who sit rock bottom of the National League North without a point from their first 11 matches.

The visitors will be hoping to rectify this poor start with a win today, whilst McEvoy and his new side Boston look to further push themselves into the top half of the table.
