Sunderland youngster Duncan Watmore has signed a new four-year contract at the club.
Breaking through
Watmore's new contract is set to keep him at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2020, with the 21-year-old having made some impression in recent weeks.
He broke into the first-team this season after been named the Barclays Under 21 player of the season last year and managed to score on his debut against Norwich City.
He isn't just impressing on a domestic level either after breaking into the England under-20 side in the summer before making into Gareth Southgate's under-21 side, where he pulled out a man of the match performance in the recent 3-1 victory over Switzerland - scoring one and setting up another two in just under twenty minutes after coming off the bench.
Praise from high places
First-team manager Sam Allardyce has spoken of his delight to secure Watmore on a long-term deal, telling Sunderland's official website that he is an "exciting prospect" and the "kind of talent" that you want to see "coming through" at your club.
Allardyce then spoke of the youngster's character, saying he is a "bright young man" who has a "sensible head" on his shoulders, adding that he believes he has a "great future ahead of him” if he continues to progress like he has so far this campaign.
Sheer delight
Watmore also spoke of his excitement about staying on Wearside on a long-term basis, saying that he was "delighted" to sign his new deal and "commit" his future to Sunderland.
He then spoke of his progress, saying that he had a "great few years" developing his game with the North-East club and now is hoping to "push on further" with the help of the staff, his team-mates and the supporters, "who have all been fantastic".
Watmore is set for his second start of the season when Sunderland travel to take on Crystal Palace tonight, with kick-off at 8PM BST.
