Sunderland scouting during international break

It was no break for Martyn Glover and his team, who were working hard looking at targets for the Black Cats during the interval.

Sunderland's scouting team have kept themselves busy during the international break, eyeing up potential targets for the Black Cats in a couple of friendlies.

The current focus is on the club retaining their Premier League status, but there is no doubt that they will be busy this summer regardless of their end-of-season fate - be it to avoid another relegation scrap in the top flight or to boost their chances of winning promotion from the Championship.

While what cause any summer arrivals will be aiding is unknown at the moment, the Black Cats are clearly planning ahead and identifying targets as soon as they can to avoid any flops in the transfer market.

Braithwaite interest real?

There has been a lot of speculation in the media lately that Sunderland have an interest in Toulouse forward Martin Braithwaite, and these rumours had substance added to them on Tuesday when representatives from the Stadium of Light watched him in action for Denmark.

Braithwaite came on at the break in a 1-0 defeat to Scotland and had a good chance to equalise too, but an incredible save from former Black Cat Craig Gordon denied him what would have been just his second international goal from 14 caps.

The 24-year-old, who can play through the middle or out wide, has eight goals in Ligue 1 this season and is well on track for double figures with seven games to go.

Having registered those goals for a Toulouse side sat second-from-bottom in the standings it's no wonder the Dane is attracting attention from bigger clubs, with his ability to rack up a more than respectable tally in a struggling team impressive.

If his side do go down this season, he will surely move on, and Sunderland will hope they avoid the same fate in order to attract the player.

Targets unclear elsewhere

Another game Sunderland's scouts attended on Tuesday, however, was Austria's clash with Turkey, with the players catching their eye there a mystery.

The Black Cats watched Austria at the back end of last year too in one of their Euro 2016 qualifiers, and so it's more than likely that there interest lies in the Wunderteam's camp, though it's unclear who that could be.
