Two of the Premier League's early form sides will look to maintain their impressive starts to the season as Swansea host Southampton at the Liberty Stadium. Swansea sit in third place despite a 4-2 defeat at the hands of a Diego Costa-inspired Chelsea last weekend and Southampton lie a space below them, fresh of the back of a 4-0 mauling of Newcastle at St Mary's.

In terms of team news, Swansea defender Jordi Amat has been ruled out for six weeks with knee ligament damage, so Argentina international Federico Fernandez is likely to make his first start. Wilfried Bony's late return from international duty with the Ivory Coast meant he was on the bench last time out, but he should return to the starting line-up with Bafetimbi Gomis taking his place in the dugout.

For the visitors, Irish forward Shane Long could return having recovered from a head injury, though £11.8million man Sadio Mané is not ready to play - next week's League Cup meeting with Arsenal looks a more likely occasion for the Senagalese midfielder's debut.

The Saints have the best of the recent meetings between the two sides, having done the double over Swansea last season and not conceded a goal in the last three games. Their last match, also at the Liberty Stadium, looked to be heading towards a goalless draw but a stoppage time goal from the recently departed Rickie Lambert was enough to settle the affair.

Swansea manager Garry Monk is under no illusions to the threat posed by Ronald Koeman's new-look Southampton team, despite the exodus of star players from the club over the summer. "I think they have (recovered)," Monk told the club's official website. "They have used the money to buy quality and at the moment they are playing well and scoring goals. They play fantastic football and have threats all over the pitch. It will be a very difficult game, and we're under no illusions as to how tough it will be on Saturday."

Koeman, meanwhile, is full of respect for Saturday's opponents and admits that the two sides employ very similar playing styles. “It’s nice to see how they play, because it’s similar to what we like to do and how we like to play," he said. "It’s a team who do a very good pressing in the midfield and it’s a team who likes to dominate the opponent. I think that will be very interesting for this Saturday.”

Both of these teams have been playing good football and scoring goals so far this season despite pre-season doubts, so this could be a real gem of a game; you can follow every kick live here on VAVEL from 3pm.
