Stevenage have signed Ryan Hedges on a one-month youth loan from Swansea City.

Hedges enjoyed time on loan in League One last season with Leyton Orient, and that experience will surely aid him as he drops down a level lower with the League Two side for the next 28 days.

Stevenage will hope so too, with them struggling incredibly in the current campaign and in need of all the help they can get. They currently sit just four places above a spot in the relegation zone, one which will condemn the occupants in May to demotion to the non-league.

Incredible demise

The Boro are having a terrible season, one that largely contrasts with last year's successes. Stevenage are but a ghost of the team that reached the play-off semi-finals in 2014-15, where they were only eliminated by eventual promotion winners Southend United.

The club have won just six of their 29 games this season, which led to the sacking of manager Teddy Sheringham earlier today - a decision which only reiterated their dire situation.

However, in Hedges, they have signed a promising young talent who has plenty to offer to their struggling cause.

The 20-year-old forward scored twice for Orient in the third tier last year, learning plenty in his 17 games for the club. This experience goes well with that already gained with Wales at youth level, with him having accumulated 12 caps at under-19 and under-21 level in the last three years.

He has been a regular with Swansea's under-21 side this season and, though he is yet to make his senior debut, he is highly rated in South Wales after signing a new three-year deal in the summer of 2015. He will now hope to show just why there are big expectations of him during his time with Stevenage.

Hedges' first chance to make an impression could come this Saturday, as the Boro prepare to take on Crawley Town at home.
