Garry Monk appeared on Match of the Day and gave his thoughts after Swansea's 1-1 draw with West Brom. Despite what many may think, Monk didn't appear bitter or resentful about the way his career ended with the Swans

Confident they can stay up

Monk has backed his old squad to avoid relegation this season, and insists that it is "only a matter of time" before they start playing at the level most people have grown to expect from a Swansea team.

A sentiment that Monk has been echoing all season long, but it looks like the signs are beginning to show he might have been correct. Swansea now sit 16th in the league table, and are beginning to show that their confidence is returning.

Monk is adamant that they will start "moving up the table" and "pull away" from the other sides who are locked in the relegation battle, such as Sunderland and Newcastle United, but the club still have work to do before they can get to that stage.

Personal future

Many fans have been wanting to know what Monk is planning on doing in the next stage of his career. After playing and then managing Swansea, for the first time he is out of his comfort zone and ready to be tested, but he is adamant that he's ready to "get back into it".

He admits he has "watched a lot of football" in the time since his dismissal from Swansea, and it's given him the desire to get back involved as soon as possible. A quick look at what he achieved during his time with the club means he can easily make a good case for himself to any future employer.

But looking back at his time with Swansea, he doesn't do so with regret and Monk has "nothing but good feelings towards them". A rare quality in football managers, giving an another example of why the fans have so much respect for a man that has done so much for the club, both on and off the field.
