With a dream move to Real Madrid looking imminent now for the Welshman, Gareth Bale will certainly be the main talking point when looking back on a hectic transfer window. With a proposed £94 million move close to completion, Tottenham Hotspur will certainly be able to splash out to strengthen their squad, while also finding a suitable replacement for Bale. Whether that new player will live up to the expectation is unknown, and also unlikely, but Villas-Boas is on the prow just in case. Due to funding being used for wages, and other aspects needing a boost within the financial terms surrounding the club, it is expected that Andre Villas-Boas would be given around £60 million if the deal was to go ahead. £60 million could bring a lot of force and power to a club, so who are some possible signings to help the Lilywhites finally overthrow Arsenal in the North London rivalry?

Willian is the most obvious, and most likely, signing to go ahead soon. Following the chaos that has formed in Russia, with every player being transfer listed by Anzhi, Willian is certainly available. With a £30 million transfer fee the expected amount, and the Brazilian reported to be in London, in order to have a medical to complete the signing, fans are also getting ready to have Willian as the latest name printed on the new shirts, although many of those shirts already sold are likely to feature the name of the Wing Wizard, who may soon line up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo. Willian may have only signed for Anzhi just last year, but the attacking midfielder could soon be gracing the Premier League with his dribbling, flair and pace. If so, the likes of Holtby and Sigurdsson may need to fight for their places, but that only be a good thing right, especially with the recent departure of Scott Parker?

Another name highly linked to the white side of London is Erik Lamela. Currently 21 years old, the Argentinan is plying his trade in Italy, with AS Roma, becoming a leading star, and wonderkid of the Serie A, often in comparison to Stephan El Shaarawy of AC Milan. Ever since the rumours began of a possible move to Los Galaticos for Bale, Lamela has been linked to a £30 million move, his recent performances for both club and country suggesting he could be able to adapt to a club’s playing style anywhere around the world. Having signed for AS Roma for just £10 million La Maggica would certainly make a profit on the player, who they have developed greatly over the last few seasons. The wide midfielder would have to compete with the likes of vice-captain Aaron Lennon and new signing Nacer Chadli, so finding a way for all to be happy could become an issue for the club.

With Steven Caulker departing to break Cardiff City’s transfer record, Spurs would most likely need to find a replacement, and Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao is a definite possibility. The Portuguese defender has had to battle for a place in the squad against the respected Marcelona, meaning Coentrao hasn’t been able to play as often as he would like, a possible reason to leave in order to gain regular first team football at a great club. With Madrid looking desperate to sign the Welshman over the recent weeks, and with Tottenham in need of a defender, we could see Fabio leave sunny Spain in his pursue for football, in what could be a great deal for both clubs.

Villas-Boas has already splashed out around £60 million, with new signings such as Robert Soldado, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue, so may look for some cheaper alternatives too. One name definitely worthy of a mention is Patrick Ebert, the attacking midfielder belonging to Real Valladolid. Ebert has shown his elite talent to fans of the Liga BBVA, and one key attribute could help him settle into the Premier League perfectly. Ebert is one of the finest crossers in the modern game, although does not get seen as much, due to his club fighting in the lower half of the Spanish league table. With Soldado being a strong striker, he will need a great supplier to help him grab the goals this season, and Ebert could be that player, with the German possibly costing just £5 million, he may be just one of a few bought in to help bolster the squad. Last season, he completed over 30% of his crosses, while the likes of Aaron Lennon and Juan Mata only completed roughly 21% and 19% respectively.

If Tottenham were to react quicker to this scenario, they could have had a lot more options. Andre Schurrle, Dimitri Payet, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. All could have been great signings for Spurs, but have found new clubs since. Personally, with £60 million or so to spend, I feel Willian and Ebert would be the ideal signings. With both Parker and Dempsey departing, Willian could be the man to fill a gap, and Ebert seems like a great player to replace Bale with his exquisite crosses. If Villas-Boas makes the right choices in the window I can certainly see them edging Arsenal at the end of the season, but if not, the Gunners may be the kings of North London for yet another season.
