A second half demolition job from Spurs saw them to victory over Newcastle and a place in the last four of the League Cup.

The first half was actually quite an even affair with the visitors having the first decent chance of the game, which came in the 16th minute when Moussa Sissoko beat a couple of players and got within 25 yards of goal before drilling a right foot shot that Michel Vorm saved well low to his left.

Just three minutes later though and it was Tottenham who took the lead of a shocking error from third choice Toon keeper Jack Alnwick. A Christian Eriksen corner looked easy to collect but the young stopper back pedaled and dropped the ball onto Nabil Bentaleb's right foot who prodded home from six yards.

Spurs took over from that point on and nearly doubled their lead just before half time from another Eriksen set piece. A right side costless kick from the Dane this time was glanced goal wards by Jan Vertonghen but a Newcastle defender was their to head the ball away.

The second half could have not started much better for Spurs as they went two up just 40 seconds into the period. A wonderful solo goal from Nacer Chadli doubled the lead as the Belgian worked his way across the edge of the box from the left and fired low and hard right footed into the bottom left corner.

A crucial moment came and went for Newcastle just before the hour when they squandered a great chance to get back in the game. It was wonderful work from Ayoze Perez to get to the byline on the right before delivering an inviting low ball across the face of goal which both Riviere and Cabella managed to miss in front of an open goal.

The Magpies would be punished for this miss as Harry Kane continued his great form by scoring a killer third for Spurs. Andros Townsend down the right played a ball inside which deflected into Kane's path down the right side of the box who sorted his feet out quickly and hooked right footed across Alnwick into the far bottom corner.

Two minutes later and Kane was replaced by Roberto Soldado who put his mark on the game within a minute of coming on. Eriksen was again involved in the build up as his decent right foot hit from 25 yards could only be parried into the middle of the box where at the second attempt Soldado turned it home from 10 yards right footed.

Just another two minutes later and a Newcastle substiitute nearly grabbed a goal as youngster Adam Armstrong found himself one on one with Michel Vorm only for the England youth star to try and dink the ball over the keeper which completely failed.
