After a gruelling Capital One Cup semi-final against Sheffield United in mid-week, Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur showed no signs of fatigue at The Hawthorns, as the Lilywhites ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

With just five minutes on the clock, the visitors took the lead through the mercurial Christian Eriksen. The trequartista, after Kane was brought down on the left of the penalty, curled the dead ball beautifully over the West Brom wall, and toward the top left corner of the goal. Despite Foster being able to get a hand to Eriksen’s effort, the England international was unable to redirect the ball from its direct route to the top left corner of the net.

Tottenham Hotspur further asserted their dominance on proceedings with a second goal, ten minutes later. A burst through the heart of the West Brom midfield from Mousa Dembele culminated in the 27 year old feeding the ball through to Harry Kane on the left hand side of the penalty area. The forward was then able to cut infield and unleash a venomous right footed strike, which found the top left corner of the West Brom goal.

The home side, after the second goal, began to play with more freedom, creating two fantastic chances to reduce the deficit. After Anichebe played the ball to the feet of Morrison on the edge of the penalty area, the Scottish international curled the ball toward the left corner of Lloris’ goal. However, the Spurs goalkeeper was able to stretch and tip the ball over the bar, and clear of danger. Moments later, a well worked free kick culminated in Saido Berahino being played through on the left hand side of the penalty area. The young forward subsequently pulled the ball back to the edge of the six yard box to Yacob, whose subsequent low effort on goal was superbly palmed clear of danger by the impressive Hugo Lloris.

When Lloris was finally beaten on the 37th minute, the crossbar came to the rescue of the Lilywhites. An outstanding set piece delivery courtesy of Morrison from the right of the penalty area was met by Dawson 12 yards from goal, but the Baggies mainstay was denied his third goal of the season, as his header cannoned off the upright of Lloris’ goal.

Spurs started the second half in similar fashion to the first, controlling possession and penning Tony Pulis’ men in their own half. A lengthy spell of possession for the visitors almost led to a third goal, as an effort from just outside the penalty area from Eriksen curled just wide of the bottom left corner of Foster’s goal.

The visitors were gifted an opportunity to make their lead unassailable from the penalty spot, after Joleon Lescott blocked a low Kyle Walker cross with his arm. Spurs’ current top scorer, Harry Kane stepped up to take the resulting penalty. The young forward did so with authority, as he coolly curled the ball into the bottom left corner, sending Foster the wrong way in the process.

Despite being largely dominated by Spurs, West Brom came close to grabbing a consolation goal in 75th minute through Saido Berahino. The young forward did well to turn Fazio on the left of the penalty area, before rifling a low shot into the midriff of Lloris. Brown Ideye was subsequently denied his first Premier League goal in the follow up, as Danny Rose was able to slide the ball clear of the danger zone before the substitute could tap the ball into the empty net.

The result ends Tony Pulis’ unbeaten start to life as West Brom manager, while Spurs go within just two points of the top four.
