Goals from: Mousa Chadli, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend, were enough for Tottenham to gain a shaky 3-2 over Swansea in a game which was full of drama for the right and the wrong reasons.

Chadli gave Spurs the lead after six minutes but play was stopped after Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis collapsed, his side played on and got their equaliser in the 19th minute thanks to Ki’s seemingly impossible shot. Mason made it 2-1 to spurs before Townsend added a third minutes later, Gylfi Sigurdsson made it a nervy finish getting one back in the 88th minute but spurs held out for the three points.

Tottenham went into this match on the back of a miserable week after crashing out of the Europa League to Fiorentina on Thursday and then being denied their piece of silverware in six years on Sunday in a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Swansea moved within four points of their opponents ahead of this clash with wins against Manchester United and Burnley in their last two games and will be looking to edge closer to beating their record Premier League points haul of 47 points.

It only took the home side six minutes to take the lead when Danny Rose whipped an excellent ball into the box and Chadli got up excellently to pin point a volley into the bottom corner beyond a helpless Lukas Fabianski.

Delight instantly turned to horror, as Swansea went to restart the game after going behind their striker Gomis suddenly collapsed outside the centre circle and the medical came rushing onto the field. The French striker was on the field for five minutes before being stretchered off seemingly conscious and replaced by Castro Oliveira and was then take to hospital as a precaution.

The game resumed as normal from that point with Spurs showing some good build up play between Andros Townsend and Christian Eriksen with the Dane teeing it up for the winger but the shot was straight at Fabianski.

Swansea managed to equalise in the 19th minute after Sigurdsson’s free kick in a dangerous came back off the inside of the post before being cleared by Kyle Walker. The ball was then punted over the top to Ki who was on the by-line who somehow managed to place his shot between the legs of Hugo Lloris and into the opposite corner.

Despite Swansea’s equaliser Mauricio Pochettino’s side continued to play some good football with Ryan Mason to Walker with the full-back playing it back but Mason’s strike was right down the middle of the goal and easy for Fabianski to collect.

The Polish shot stopper was called on again in the dying embers of the half with his vital touch from Eriksen’s cross to put off Harry Kane and then collected well from Chadli’s long range swerving effort.

It was Swansea who came out of the traps in the second half with Shelvey getting away from Bentaleb before hitting a thunderous shot at Lloris and the French international pulled off a decent save to keep the scores level.

In the 50th minute Tottenham regained their lead, Eriksen produced another piece of magic playing it off to Mason who wondered into the area before the midfielder hit a thunderous shot into the roof of the net.

Seven minutes later they grabbed a third, there was a scramble in the spurs area and the advantage was played by referee Lee Mason with Townsend taking full advantage running from his own half into the Swansea area cutting inside of former teammate Kyle Naughton and hit it into the net.

Chadli had the ball in the net in the 75th minute but Kane was flagged offside on the far side in the build - up. Substitute Roberto Soldado came within inches of getting Tottenham’s fourth in the 81st minute after a great ball into to the far post found his head but it was just wide of the post. Soldado came close again six minutes later when he slid in to get onto Ben Davies ball across the face of goal but he just misses the opportunity.

Sigurdsson got one back two minutes from the end when he hit an excellent volley from close range past Lloris from substitute’s Jefferson Montero’s cross into the box which made for a nervous last few minutes inside White Hart Lane. Defender Federico Fernandez nearly got the equaliser in the final seconds of the match with his header but Lloris did brilliantly to turn it around the post and collect the three points for his side.

Despite their nervy finish to the game Tottenham, were deserving of their three points playing some great football throughout the 90 minutes, this will also help the confidence of Pochettino’s young XI after a week of disappointment.  It was tale of two evenings for Swansea with their major concern for their striker Gomis but they managed to keep their composure and run the game right down to the final whistle. The result won’t matter to Monk or his side their first concern will be for their striker but hopefully he will return soon fully fit and help the swans in their journey to beat their Premier League point record.
