Kyle Walker is a thoroughly frustrating player - especially if you are of a Spurs persuasion. The 24-year-old has the athleticism, pace and prowess to be one of the most celebrated defenders in current times. However, since his initial breakthrough success at White Hart Lane he has failed to make a more permanent impact.

On his day, the Englishman can terrorize the flank of any opposing team. He has wonderful technique in his delivery and commands unmatchable sprint speed to go past any man in a 1-to-1 duel. However, the overriding concern is Walker's lack of consistency. Pundits continue to debate and converse over why he cannot hold down a long-lasting place in both the England squad and perform week-in, week-out for his club side, Tottenham Hotspur.

The majority of his critics would agree that Walker has to adapt key areas of his game. Primarily he must ensure he stays fit. One of the defender's major obstacles has been his inability to keep himself in shape and up to the grueling tempo of the Barclays Premier League.

Another area the promising talent must address is his level of defensive responsibility. Mauricio Pochettino has been able to utilize Walker's pace to bomb down the wing on a number of occasions this season, he adds a superb attacking threat to the already attack-orientated Spurs lineup; the right-back has the tendency to leave space in behind him leaving Tottenham open to the counter-attack.

The Sheffield-born defender has the ability to excel in his position. The opportunity is there, however he must temper crucial parts of his game to achieve maximum success.
