Tottenham are confident that they will fight off other clubs to secure the signature of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

In order for them to persuade the Saints to sell, they may need to offer a player in exchange. Andros Townsend or Benjamin Stambouli could be used in order to lower the transfer fee.

Southampton are looking for £20 million for the French midfielder, but Tottenham are reluctant to spend such a fee. The North London club will be hoping to tempt Ronald Koeman to accept a lower fee but with a player to exchange.

The 25-year-old has made his intentions clear, he wants to move on. He has a good relationship with Mauricio Pochettino who moved from Southampton to Spurs last year.

Tottenham tried to buy Schneiderlin last summer only for Southampton to block his departure.

Both Townsend and Stambouli haven't been regulars in the side this season and Pochettino is aiming to strengthen the side without spending excessive amounts of money.

Arsenal and Chelsea also have the France international on their wish-lists, but Spurs now believe he will come to White Hart Lane.
