Nacer Chadli has spoken about his desire to play with Christian Benteke at Tottenham Hotspur while on international duty with the Red Devils.

Chadli has said that if Benteke leaves Aston Villa then he wishes it is for Spurs, hoping the club make an offer for him.

Chadli hopes that Benteke will join, but realises that: “first they have to attract him and there are lots of clubs who want him.

"Christian has to make the choice," he continued. “Hopefully he’s going to choose us.”

The striker scored 15 goals in 34 appearances last season and looked a new player when former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood took charge.

Benteke has 2 year left on his current deal but is set to be offered a new deal at Villa Park according to their chief executive - however Villa will be powerless if any team meet his £32.5million release clause and if the in-demand striker wants out.

£32.5million is probably a lot more than Tottenham will be willing to pay for any striker, especially after disappointing displays from £28million man Roberto Soldado, whilst fellow big-money signing Erik Lamela has only recently hit form. However, the ears of new Head Scout Paul Mitchell and Technical Director Franco Baldini may well have been pricked up by suggestions that they could prize Benteke away.

Some have suggested that a fee of around £20million plus Togo forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who thrived under Tim Sherwood at Spurs, should suffice in a deal that would be worth around £25million.

Toby Alderweireld has also been linked with a move to Spurs, after the Atletico Madrid player had a successful season in the Premier League with Southampton. The Saints are keen on a permanent deal, however Chelsea and Tottenham are believed to be interested for the £14million-rated player as they look to add some experienced youth into their defence.
