Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be leading the race for the signing of Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bolster his attacking options to keep pressure on last season’s top scorer Harry Kane, or even as a possible replacement for the 22-year-old who is reported subject of a big money bid from the Red Devils.

The North-London club are looking to take the Mexican on a season-long loan, however, Reds manager Louis Van Gaal is thought to be reluctant to give one of their players to a potential top-four rival.

If the deal for the 27-year-old does fail to materialise, Spurs will be confident that they will still land their other top target, West Brom’s Saido Berahino.

The Englishman’s future at the Hawthorns have been thrown in doubt with Tottenham making an initial enquiry for his availability last month, they are expected to go back to the Baggies hierarchy with an improved bid which could see the 22-year-old’s wages treble.

Rival interest

Another Premier League club that has been heavily linked with a move for Hernandez are Spurs’ close rivals West Ham United. The Hammer’s are willing to cough up £12million for the Mexico international an offer United are considering.

Hammer’s striker Enner Valencia was ruled out for up to twelve weeks earlier in the month which started the rumours, however the only possibility of the move happening is dependent on United bringing their own forwards with the move for Barcelona’s Pedro reportedly edging closer to completion.

One last game for United?

Hernandez, who was an unused substitute at the weekend during United’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham, spent last season on loan at La Liga giants Real Madrid after the signing of Radamel Falcao on transfer deadline day last summer.

Hernandez will be hoping he can make, what could potentially be, his final appearance in a United shirt on Friday night when they travel to Midlands to take on Aston Villa.
