Short on firepower at White Hart Lane

With the transfer window in England having closed on Tuesday, many Tottenham fans were left scratching their heads as to why the Tottenham hierarchy, and chairman Daniel Levy in particular, failed to invest in a proven striker.

Having scored 31 goals in his outstanding debut Premier League season, Harry Kane remains to only recognised striker at Tottenham. Despite the Englishman’s heroics last season, Kane is yet to get off the mark this time around as Mauricio Pochettino’s side have scored just three goals in their opening four matches.

With Kane currently on international duty with England, ahead of their European Qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland, Pochettino will be left crossing his fingers in the hope his star striker remains fit and finds his goal scoring form.

Adding youth and versatility to the squad

Despite having bids for West Brom striker Saido Berahino publicly rejected on deadline day, Pochettino has put his weight behind the Tottenham board in their approach and results throughout the recent transfer window.

The signings of Clinton N’Jie from Olympique Lyonnais for a reported £11 million, and Son Heung-Min from Bayer Leverkusen for £22million have added some much needed pace to the Tottenham front line as they look for their first win of the campaign away at Sunderland next weekend.

Despite both N’Jie and Son being used as wingers of wide forwards throughout their short careers so far, Pochettino sees both as potential replacements for Kane with rotation a necessity as Tottenham look to compete in four competitions.

Pochettino highlighted the versatility of 22 year old N’Jie and 23 year old Son once the window closed on Tuesday. In an interview with the official club site, the Argentine boss mentions how “we [Tottenham] secured Sonny [Son Heung-Min] and Clinton in the knowledge that we may not be adding any other forward”.

Along with Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela, who have both been deployed as lone strikers throughout pre-season and the early stages of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign, Pochettino looks to be happy with the attacking options at his disposal this season.

N’Jie and Son on international duty

Before kicking a ball for Tottenham, both N’Jie and Son have flown out to meet up with their respective national teams ahead of a busy week of international fixtures around the world.

Having struggled with injury in his opening weeks at Tottenham, N’Jie looks to have further aggravated his injury problems by pulling out of national duty with Cameroon.

Reports in Cameroon claim N’Jie, who has 11 caps and six goals for Cameroon, has returned to North London to receive further medical attention ahead of the trip to Sunderland.

With N’Jie struggling for fitness, and a doubt for the game at the Stadium of Light, Son looks to have no such problem as he looks to prove his worth to the Tottenham faithful.

The 45 capped South Korean favourite scored a first half hat-trick as Laos were put to the sword in an 8-0 victory for the Asian footballing giants.

Instant pressure on N’Jie and Son to instantly hit form

With the publicised lack of striking alternatives at White Hart Lane, N’Jie and Son will be offered little time to bed in.

Pochettino, Levy and the fans of Spurs will be hoping the club isn't left regretting any of the transfer dealings of the past few months, with N’Jie and Son instantly becoming key components to the puzzle.
