Tottenham Hotspur progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday, beating Leicester City 2-0.

Just 10 days after a 89th minute penalty from Harry Kane denied the Foxes a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane, the King Power staged the replay of this third round tie and this time it was Spurs who were the better team, despite Leicester the ones hard done by in the initial game.

They dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead just before the break, Heung-Min Son smashing the ball into the top corner with six minutes left of the opening 45.

Despite a good response from Leicester in the second half, they were able to extend this lead too, Nacer Chadli the scorer this time with a very cool finish - Son with a lovely assist.

The Foxes gave it one last push late on, but it wasn't enough to break down an impressive Spurs side who will face Colchester United in the next round.

Leicester lively...

Leicester started the game with real velocity, pressing high up the pitch and forcing early errors out of Spurs, albeit none of great note as the Foxes continued to probe away in the opening stages.

Nabil Bentaleb's sloppy mistake inside the first five minutes almost let the hosts in, with him caught in possession by Danny Drinkwater, but the ball ran away from the Leicester man just as he appeared to have won it back, goalkeeper Michel Vorm able to sweep up instead.

...But Spurs dominant

However, it was the visitors who had the first half chance after 14 minutes. Son raced to the byline and cut the ball back for Christian Eriksen, but the Dane could not produce the accuracy that saw him bag a brace against Sunderland on Saturday, instead slicing his shot wide of the mark from a good position.

Spurs proceeded to take control of the match from here, with Gökhan Inler's tame free-kick right at Vorm the only real respite Leicester got from their opponent's dominance, just before the half hour mark.

Nonetheless, the North Londoners weren't exactly carving out chance after chance, barely making the most of their possession as Ben Davies lashed a 30 yard effort well wide of the mark following a corner.

However, an opportunity carved out by the left-back was by far the game's best on 35 minutes, a lovely whipped cross met in the air by Erik Lamela, but he couldn't get over the ball and instead headed over from eight yards.

With Spurs knocking on the door, it was only a matter of time before they broke the deadlock, and they did so in stunning fashion as Son thumped in the opener from the edge of the box. Given too much space by young Ben Chilwell, the South Korean shifted the ball onto his right foot and almost burst the net, putting his side ahead at a perfect time just before the break.

Foxes respond, but without end product

Leicester tried to respond, but they were behind come half time having offered very little bar some great pressing in the opening 10 minutes.

Demarai Gray and Leonardo Ulloa both posed problems down the wing as we neared the interval, but their crosses did nothing more than threaten, dealt with comfortably enough by the Spurs defence.

Lacking star quality, it was no surprise that Claudio Ranieri opted to make a change at the break, with Shinji Okazaki coming on for Drinkwater.

They came close to an equaliser not long after too, but it wasn't Okazaki with the chance, instead Gray as his bending effort was well saved by Vorm before Nathan Dyer scuffed the rebound wide.

This was the response Ranieri will have wanted from his team, who had suddenly nullified the threat of Spurs and were taking control of the game themselves.

Visitors establish breathing space

Nonetheless, Spurs were still ahead and could have doubled their lead just past the hour, Kane testing Kasper Schmeichel less than two minutes after entering the field but finding the Dane to be equal to his effort after a slick move.

The England striker's introduction sparked some life into his team again it seemed, with another great attack following soon after but coming to nothing this time. However, despite this, a second goal would come and it was only minutes later too, Chadli the scorer with a terrific finish after an even better through ball by star man Son.

On the counter, Spurs looked a real threat for a third as well as Leicester pressed for a way back into the game, and Kane looked to make the most of this as we entered the final 20 minutes - only to find Schmeichel in his way once more.

Ranieri tried to take advantage of the momentum his side were picking up late on, introducing the likes of Marc Albrighton and Jamie Vardy, but Spurs had already established a comfortable enough position in the game by this point, with their well-rotated team getting the better of Leicester's on the night with relative ease.

Vorm was forced into a decent save late on when Albrighton hit the ball goalwards on the volley, but it was right at the Dutchman in truth as he got down to block - as was Ulloa's stoppage time header.

Next up for Spurs are League One side Colchester, with them to travel to the Community Stadium for their fourth round tie.
