Off the back of a thrilling win against Watford, Tottenham Hotspur have propelled their title challenge - and Mauricio Pochettino’s men are convinced they can go the whole way and win the league.

The three points secured on Saturday left the Lilywhites in second, above rivals Arsenal on goal difference. They trail unsuspected leaders Leicester by five points.

Spurs calm according to Poch'

The gap isn’t worrying Tottenham, who are only focused on “working hard” and “not [thinking] too much about the future” according to their manager, who also admitted they must stay “calm” and “take ever game and competition and be ready to compete.”

The last time Tottenham were this far up the table after 25 games was under Harry Redknapp in 2012. The team went on to finish fourth. Spurs have not won the league since 1961, over a half a century ago.

Despite this Tottenham are confident. Their manager has assured Tottenham fans in the past that he will deliver silverware to White Hart Lane, while also joking that him and chairman, Daniel Levy, will do a duet if they do so this season.

Belief is the most important word...

Speaking to BBC Sport the Argentine added that  “belief” is the “most important word” in football, and that he “believes” in the team and “they too, believe”. He further commented, “you can see in their [the players] eyes, the feeling, the energy, that they believe”.

His words were echoed by midfielder Erik Lamela who commented to SpursTV, after the win at home to Watford, that, “anything is possible if we believe, and we are believing”. He went on to reinforce his managers message of taking their challenge one step at a time, saying “everyone trains hard” as they want to “do their best” and “fight together”.

Tottenham travel to the Etihad this weekend to face Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City, who sit just one point behind Spurs, in fourth. The result will be pivotal to both team’s title chances.
