According to Gazzetta dello Sport Premier League new boys Watford are having talks with Roma over a move for Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia. The 27 year old has played 13 times for Roma in all competitions, netting twice. However he only joined the club in January after scoring 61 goals in 95 league appearances for his previous club CSKA Moscow.

Reports claim that Roma wish to offload the player on loan with a requirement to purchase the player at the end of the loan deal. However Watford would rather have the option to sign the player during the loan. According to Football Italia Watford aren't the only club trying to sign Doumbia as they face competition from West Ham. Roma are believed to have paid around €15 million for the striker in January and are looking to recoup most of that fee should they sell Doumbia this summer with some reports suggesting the fee would be around €13 million.

Watford, owned by the Pozzo family have often sourced players from the Serie A with most purchases coming from fellow family-owned club Udinese. However the Pozzo's have seemingly shown a desire to spend this summer as they look to strengthen Watford's squad after promotion, having already broken Watford's record transfer fee in signing Etienne Capoue from fellow Premiership club Tottenham. As well as bidding around £7 million for Genoa winger Diego Perotti.

A strike force ready for the Premier League?

Should reports from Italy turn out to be true, the acquisition of Seydou Doumbia would add to an already impressive strike force at Vicarage Road. Club captain Troy Deeney has recently put pen to paper with a new 5 year deal and Matej Vydra has joined the club this time on a permanent basis. Therefore there would be plenty of competition between the forwards should Doumbia be added to the strike force of Troy Deeney, Matej Vydra, Odion Ighalo and Fernando Forestieri.
