Recent summer signing Sebastian Prodl has spoken to Watford FC after his transfer from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

The 28-year-old made 174 appearances for the club in all competitions over seven years but has chosen to move to newly promoted Premier League side, Watford. He told the club he is "very excited," to play in the Premier next season and is looking forward to the new challenge.

Sebastian Prodl said that he enjoyed playing in the German league but he doesn't think it compares to the Premier League. He explained that the passion for football in England was an important factor behind his decision, as well as the opportunity to play against the big clubs in English football. He believes Watford should not be underestimated next season despite being given the title of "underdogs."

Prodl signed for the club for free after rejecting a new contract and subsequently being released by Werder Bremen. He has signed a five year deal with Watford and says he has always "dreamed about getting a contract in the Premier League."

Prodl's experience in a top league such as the Bundesliga as well as his experience at international level, having played 49 times for Austria, should benefit the Hornets as they look to add players with experience. Watford fans will hope that the 6ft 4in centre-back strengthens their defence, which has been known to struggle in dealing with crosses.

New manager, new formation?

With a new manager at the helm, Quique Sanchez Flores, it remains to be seen what role Prodl will play in Watford's defence. With three centre-backs commonly being used at Watford for the last three years, it would be expected the Prodl would take his place in the middle. However, Quique Sanchez Flores may change Watford's formation for the Premier League in order to play four at the back. This is just one of the many possible changes at Vicarage Road in the forthcoming season, as the club adapts to life under the new manager.
