Watford have announced the signature of Steven Berghuis, who becomes the club's tenth summer signing.

It has been known for a while that Berghuis was due to join the club, with fans just waiting for the official announcement. Now the waiting is over as Berghuis has signed a four-year deal with the Hornets.

It is unclear at this early stage what the transfer fee is but the Watford Observer have reported that the amount is believed to be £4.2 million.

Who is Steven Berghuis?

The 23-year-old has spent his whole playing career in the Netherlands, playing mostly in the Eredivisie. Despite his young age he has made 70 appearances for AZ Alkmaar, scoring 19 times in the process.

The player was on red-hot form last year, netting 11 times in total during the season.

Berghuis hasn't yet received an international call up for the Netherlands senior squad but he has been capped at youth level for the under-21, under-20 and under-19 sides.

Signing number 10

Activity at Vicarage Road has been plentiful, with Berghuis becoming the 10th player to join the ranks in Hertfordshire before their Premier League season kicks-off against Everton.

Berghuis is likely to fit into Watford's new formation quite easily given that he is quite adaptable. The winger can play down either flank or even in the middle as the 'number 10'.

As a result he shouldn't find it too difficult to fit into the 4-2-3-1 formation that Watford are likely to utilize, as he is expected to be able to play in any of the three positions behind the striker.

Consequently this seems like a good signing for the Hornets given Berghuis' success previous in his career and his aforementioned adaptability. Watford fans will hope that he can add to his success whilst at Vicarage road.

The Premier League will undoubtedly be a step up for the Dutchman and it will therefore be interesting to see how Berghuis fares with this new challenge.
