Serie A side Udinese are believed to be interested in taking Watford defender Christian Kabasele to Italy on a season-long loan.
The Hornets signed the centre-half last month for £6 million from Belgian side Genk, but it hasn’t been made clear thus far if he is part of the first-team plans.
Head coach Walter Mazzarri has given no indication on the matter and reports in Italy are suggesting that the defender could be heading to another Pozzo family owned club.
Defender’s future is in doubt
Kabasele’s future with the Hornets is already in doubt. Despite only being at the Vicarage Road outfit for a matter of weeks, he hasn’t been included in the opening two league games of the new Premier League season.
What may have made speculation increase is that Mazzarri brought in former Sunderland defender Younes Kaboul on a three-year deal last week.
The French centre—half was part of a double singing which also seen Juventus attacking midfielder Roberto Pereyra arrive on a five-year deal.
Kaboul started on the bench for Tuesday night’s match against League One side Gillingham, and Pereyra has now received his work permit and is in contention to start against Arsenal at the weekend.
Kabasele or Prodl on Udinese radar
Pozzo-owned Udinese are visibly short on defensive numbers and the club are considering making a move for either Kabasele or Austrian international Sebastian Prodl.
Watford are also owned by the Pozzo family, and a loan move to the Serie A side would make sense if neither player is going to be part of Mazzarri’s plans this season.
However, Prodl has been impressive so far this season. He has played both league matches and as it stands, there is more chance Kabasele will be heading to Italy than the Austrian.
The transfer window closes next week, therefore, the picture will become a lot clearer in the coming days whether Udinese will boost their defensive stocks.
