West Bromwich Albion defender Donervon Daniels has left the club for Wigan Athletic, and signed a three-year deal with his new side.

Daniels arrival makes him Wigan's fourth summer signing, after Craig Morgan, Richard O'Donnell and David Perkins joined Gary Caldwell's team.

He moved to the Midlands back in 2009 from Reading and worked his way through the various youth ranks.

The 21-year-old has previously had loan stints with Tranmere Rovers, Gillingham, Blackpool and Aberdeen but failed to make it with West Brom.

Last season was a coming of age for him, as he began to feature more regularly. He made 19 appearances for the Seasiders, before playing nine further games for Derek McInness' Aberdeen.

A three-year deal should finally afford him the game time that he needs to develop, both on and off the field.

He'll also hope to fill the void left by Caldwell, as he focuses on managing the team, and Rob Keirnan. The highly rated centre-back left the Latics in favour of a move to Mark Warburton's rebuilding job at Rangers.

Speaking to the official Wigan website on the move, Daniels admitted he was "ecstatic" with the move. He is relieved that is "all over the line" and he can start "focusing on football and the season ahead".

Daniels confirmed "there were other clubs interested" but he seen other things as more important. Namely stating that he wants to be "part of the positive push for this team, for this club and for this town".

He eluded to this moment as "the most important time" of his career, and that he now needs to "get games, get my head down and be part of the squad".

Daniels said he was "convinced from the first moment" that he spoke with Caldwell, and the chat with him and the chairman was "very reassuring" as to why he was joining Wigan. He concluded, "I wanted to come here from the word go.”
