West Bromwich Albion are preparing a bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin that would break the club's transfer record, should a deal be struck.

Competition for his signature

West Brom have joined several other Premier League club's in the race to land Austin, who is seeking a move back to England's highest league after QPR were relegated last season.

Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all been linked with the 24-year-old, who made his England debut last month, but none have met QPR's reported asking price of £15 million.

This is seen as slightly high due to the fact the player is in his last year of his contract, and West Brom are likely to go in with an offer of £10 million plus add ons, which would eclipse the money they paid for Brown Ideye last summer.

Austin certainly has the credentials to play in the Premier League once again, after scoring 18 league goals last season, the fourth highest total in the division.

The tally of 18 was four more than West Brom's top scorer Saido Berahino, and the two could be in line to strike up a very promising partnership, should Austin move to the Midlands.

Other possible moves

Another transfer target is Liverpool's Rickie Lambert, who could join during a summer of change at the Hawthorns under Tony Pulis, with Victor Anichebe, Stephane Sessegnon and the aforementioned Ideye all set to leave.

Another possibility is that the Baggies could make a double swoop at QPR, with reported interest in winger Matt Phillips.

Phillips, who made 25 appearances last season, has been a long term target of Pulis' and is said to be valued at around £7 million, leading West Brom to be confident that they can do a deal for the pair in the region of £20 million.
