Since the season ended many clubs have been linked with a cut price move for Barcelona's Alex Song - most notably Manchester City and Chelsea. Although he had been on loan at West Ham United last season, the majority of the media had ruled the Hammers out of a deal for Song. However, it seems as though he may well be signing for the club in the coming days.

Fan support

It is testament to the age we live in that it is infact social media which has made it all but certain that Song will join the East London club. After the London club's 3-0 win over FC Lusitan's in their Europa League qualifying game, Song was spotted outside Upton Park by fans, who he stopped to have photographs with. Prior to this hitting social media, Song himself had dropped a huge hint by uploading a video of him training in the clubs gym in the clubs new training kit.

Whilst this may all be mere coincidence, it is hard to argue with the hints that have been dropped, especially when you factor in that the club have also indicated that there could be two incoming transfers in the next few days. If that is the case, it would be logical if one of them is Song.

Hard bargain

If, rumours are to believed, the only reason the club have taken so long to tie up a deal with the classy midfielder, is because they have been playing hard ball with Barcelona. That is to say that the club are looking to get Alex Song on an audacious free transfer, especially when you consider that Barcelona paid Arsenal £15million for his services only three years ago.

Despite his dip in form in the second half of his season on loan at Upton Park, Song would signify further intent, plus, if it is as a free transfer, you would be hard pressed to find a better free transfer throughout the whole of the transfer window.
