West Ham United will be hoping they can bounce back after their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City against Premier League new boys Bournemouth this Saturday.

The Hammers were unable to build on their excellent start to the season, after an impressive 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day of the season, but they face a Bournemouth side who are still searching for their first point and goal since being promoted to the top flight.

Head-to-head

West Ham and Bournemouth have not met in a league fixture since they played against each other in the old Division Two in April 1990; the Hammers won 4-0 on that occasion.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides came in a League Cup third round tie in October 1999, with West Ham running out 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Marc Keller and Frank Lampard. Bournemouth's manager Eddie Howe was in the Cherries starting line-up for that game.

West Ham looking to bounce back

It has been a mixed start to the season for West Ham. Their season started on July 2 with a Europa League qualifier, after qualifying for the competition through the Fair Play league. Six games later and the Hammers were knocked out in the third qualifying round against Astra Giurgiu, just days before they started their Premier League campaign.

It was a dream start for the Hammers in the Premier League as they recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. However, West Ham head coach Slaven Bilic was left disappointed after his side could not follow up the win with another against Leicester, instead the Hammers falling to a 2-1 defeat at Upton Park.

Bilic will be hoping to bounce back from the home defeat and give the supporters something to smile about against Bournemouth to show that he is the right man to take West Ham forward and that the result against Arsenal was no fluke.

Selection issues for West Ham

Striker Mauro Zarate will miss the game against Bournemouth with a hamstring problem, whilst Diafra Sakho and Modibo Maiga are the only first-team strikers available for selection with Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia also unavailable through injury.

Elliot Lee could be promoted to the first team squad, but Bilic will be desperate to sign another striker and Galatasaray have confirmed that they have rejected a £3.5 million bid from West Ham for striker Burak Yilmaz.

The Hammers will also be without suspended goalkeeper Adrian for the first time in 58 matches, after he was sent-off in the defeat to Leicester, meaning Republic of Ireland international Darren Randolph, who signed from Birmingham City this summer, is expected to make his Premier League debut for the club.

Randolph will be hoping he won't have to pick the ball out of the back of the net as he did last season against Bournemouth; he conceded 12 goals in two games against the Cherries in the Championship last season, whilst playing for Birmingham.

The opposition

Bournemouth are still searching for their first point and goal since returning to the top flight, however West Ham manager Slaven Bilic said in his pre-match press conference that he believes the Cherries were "unlucky" and "deserved" more from their opening two games.

Eddie Howe's men started their season at home to Aston Villa, but it wasn't a dream start for the Premier League new boys as they lost 1-0, despite having a number of chances and having 58 per cent of the possession.

Bournemouth suffered another narrow defeat on Monday night, losing 1-0 to Liverpool at Anfield, despite matching the Reds for long spells.

The Cherries were left frustrated when captain Tommy Elphick's early header was disallowed for a foul on Dejan Lovren, and they were left further aggrieved at Christian Benteke's winning goal, as they felt it should have been disallowed for offside.

Bournemouth will quickly get tired of being told that they played well and were unlucky not to get anything to show for it, so they will be even more determined to secure their first points of the new campaign at Upton Park on Saturday.

Howe's men have no new injury concerns either, with Harry Arter the only long-term absentee with a groin problem.
