After being relegated from WSL 1 to WSL 2 at the end of last season things were looking bleak for Willy Kirk’s Vixens.

Following the demotion to the second tier, one of his first moves was to bring Corinne Yorston back to Bristol, the seasoned defender having spent eight years (over two four-year spells) of her career at the West Country club.

The signing was met with nothing but positive reactions from the fans, a feeling that Yorston was coming back home. A Vixen at heart, who’d add valuable experience to an increasingly youthful team.

Big blow for Bristol

Both Bristol and Yorston started the league season off strongly with a win over Yeovil Town and a draw against Sheffield over the first four days of the season. However, almost a month later, the defender picked up a knock in their next fixture against the London Bees and had to be substituted just six minutes into the game.

The veteran player maintained that the injury wasn’t anything to worry about as she missed the next two games that week; two two-nil wins over both Aston Villa and Watford. But the astute defender was in fine form as she live-tweeted the Watford match with injured teammate Jasmine Matthews.

However, this morning Yorston broke the injury news on her personal Twitter account, having confirmed that she’s ruptured her ACL. Yorston, a dedicated professional (coach, biochemist, et al.) has already started her recovery from the severe injury and has taken the time to thank Bristol City for their immediate and continued support.

Fans rally round injured star

The news has already met with an out-pouring of support from fellow professionals, current and former team mates as well as numerous well-wishes from fans and friends.

Although the defender hasn’t mentioned any time frame for recovery it won’t be long until Yorston is not just back on the pitch but once again flying without wings.

Everyone at VAVEL wishes her a speedy recovery.
