Former Italy international, Alessandro Del Piero is considering his future in the A-league with Sydney FC. The disappointing end to the season Friday past has fuelled talks of Del Piero and the Sky Blues parting ways after two years. Melbourne Victory’s Brazilian Gui Finkler brought Sydney back to reality when he struck in injury time to claim a 2-1 victory for his side at the Etihad Stadium and the defeat could mean the end of Del Piero with Sydney.

After the game, Del Piero revealed that he would like to stay in the A-League but also noted that after two years, he was looking forward to a rest.

Sydney FC coach, Frank Farina said he expected a decision to be made - by either Del Piero or the Sydney FC board - to come sooner rather than later.

"Discussions have to be had and I think it will be relatively quick now," he said.

"We've got to respect him and see what he wants to do."

"He's been fantastic for Australian football, both on the field and off the field, and for Sydney as a city and a club."

Del Piero signed a two-year deal with the A-league outfit on September 5th 2012 after both parties agreed a $2million per year deal. The veteran forward has made 19 appearances this season scoring seven goals in the process.

"We've got to respect him and see what he wants to do."

Del Piero obviously wasn't at his best in Sydney FC's loss, but still managed to show why he is still highly rated despite his age. With his neat touches and sharp control he impressed but close marking kept him out of the game. Sydney now have five months of off-season to plan ahead for next season.
