Feyenoord 1-2 Beşiktaş (Champions League third qualifying round)

Beşiktaş were the victors at de Kuip on Tuesday night in the Champions League third qualifying round, coming out of the game with two vital away goals in a 2-1 win.

The Turkish side took the lead in the 12th minute after Mustafa Pektemek headed home an inswinging corner taken by Oğuzhan Özyakup, formerly of Premier League side Arsenal and Eredivisie's AZ Alkmaar.

The game played out some entertaining football, but there were no goals until the 70th minute, when Kerim Frei scored an incredible solo goal. The player won back possession just inside his own half, before running a full 60 yards as his deflected shot hit the back of the net.

Demba Ba came on and made his first competitive appearance for the club, and his first since leaving Chelsea a number of weeks ago. The Senegalese striker played the final 30 minutes of the game.

Feyenoord managed to pull one goal back before the end, as Ramon conceded a 94th-minute penalty. Mitchell te Vrede slotted the penalty home after a short delay. The one goal deficit leaves Feyenoord still in with a chance of qualifying, although Beşiktaş' two away goals may have given them the edge.

PSV 1 - 0 St Pölten (Europa League third qualifying round)

PSV take a slender one-goal advantage to Austria after Luuk de Jong scored his first goal for the Dutch side.

With limited action in the first half, a cross from Luciano Narsingh early in the second half was met at the back post by de Jong, as PSV looked to improve on their lacklustre first-half performance.

The home side had chances to put the tie to bed, Locadia misisng the best of the chances. The game ended on a sour note as PSV winger Florian Jozefzoon was given a second yellow card in the final minute, as he was booked twice for diving.

PSV played the game with a weaker team, though they are expected to have their World Cup stars back for the second leg, which is to be played next Thursday. The likes of Memphis Depay, who has been linked with a move away, and Georginio Wijnaldum are expected to return to training at the start of the week.
