PEC Zwolle have started their Eredivisie season well after beating FC Utrecht 2-0. Jesper Drost scored late on for Zwolle and then Soufian Moro finished the match with an incredible goal from inside his own half.

FC Utrecht handed league debuts to new singings Christian Kum, Nacer Barazite and Ramon Leeuwin, but were without a lot of injured players including Tommy Oar, Edouard Duplan, Michael Zullo and Danny Verbeek. PEC Zwolle gave league debuts to Ben Rienstra, Jody Lukoki & Nikolaos Ioannidis and were injury costless going into this match.

The match started and the opening 10 minutes of the match were fairly event-less but in the 12th minutes PEC Zwolle midfielder Mustafa Saymak found space through the middle and forced an excellent save from Utrecht goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter.

The hosts had a great chance to make it 1-0, as new loan signing from Ajax Jody Lukoki put in a great ball from the right hand side. Jesper Drost was there to tap it in from 10 yards, but managed to hit it wide to the far post after not making much contact on the ball. Both team needed to make substitutions; as Trent Sainsbury for Zwolle and new Utrecht signing Christian Kum both got injured, Maikel van de Werff came on for PEC Zwolle and Yannick Cortie came on for Utrecht. PEC Zwolle came close a few time in the rest of the half but couldn't find the target, most notably Jesper Drost tried curling a left footed shot into the top left hand corner but it went narrowly wide.

Half time: PEC Zwolle 0-0 FC Utrecht. PEC Zwolle created plenty of chances but only managed to put one of their nine shots on target. FC Utrecht had most the possession with 58% but failed to create chances that threatened Zwolle. It looked like a goal was always coming for the hosts, but with so few shots on target it may not have happened.

The second half was without much happening with a few shots that barely troubled either side. In the 64th minute, Nikolaos Ioannidis came on for his Zwolle debut for Stefan Nijland. Nijland had barely been involved in the match, despite earning a starting berth. Less than 10 minutes later, the deadlock was broken by the home side, Jesper Drost got on the end of Jody Lukoki cross which was flicked into the path of Drost who finished it off into the bottom left hand corner.

Debutant Jody Lukoki who had a very impressive match down the right wing came off. Replacing him was Soufian Moro, who was making his PEC Zwolle debut as he joined this summer from Utrecht on a costless transfer.

The away side were throwing everything at Zwolle to get the equiliser. But in the last minute, Ruiter, the goalkeeper of Utrecht, came up for a corner but failed to get on the end of it. The ball was cleared to the right hand side where Moro was, he had space in front of him and time to shoot from inside his own half and the ball flew into the net to seal the match for Zwolle.

Full Time: PEC Zwolle 2-0 FC Utrecht; 75' Drost, 90'+3' Moro.

It was a great start to the season for PEC Zwolle, 3 points and a clean sheet is the best way to get a season off and running, as they look strong enough to achieve a top half finish and challenge for the European spots. Finishing chances was worrying for Zwolle as they created lots of chances and could've secured the win earlier on in the game if some of the chances were converted.

For Utrecht it doesn't look good, they failed to create chances and were missing quite a few player through injuries as well as losing important players in the summer like de Ridder, Delpierre and Martensson. They will have to continue to rebuild the team by getting the injured players back and geling the team together, it will be a tough job for new manager Rob Alflen will have a tough job on his hands.

PEC Zwolle also learnt today that they'll be playing Sparta Prague over two legs in their first ever Europa League campaign, if they win they'll go into the Europa League group stages for the first time in their history.
