Lyon's 23-year-old French striker Alexandre Lacazette has signed a new two-year contract deal with the Ligue 1 side, after a super season in both league and European competitions. He scored 22 goals and created six assists in his best ever campaign, which prompted some reported interest from Premier League clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal.

During his time at Lyon, he has been promoted from the youth team and excelled as their main striking option as well as performing for every youth team France has to offer from U-16 to U-21 level. He will be hoping that he can establish himself as a starter in the international squad for many seasons to come, which will be possible if he carries on his current goal-scoring form with Lyon.

However, his future has been sorted out swiftly after the closing of the transfer window and his new two-year deal means that he is tied to the club until 2018.

Lacazette had this to say on the official website: "It's a great moment - it's a sign of confidence from the club but now we can stop talking about that."

Meanwhile, Lyon's club president Jean-Michel Aulas said: "It is a positive and important moment for the club. This signature fits with our policy of producing our own players; Lacazette carries our hopes with the France taem. He has handled the discussion about his future in a mature and intelligent way."
