Three colossal fixtures take place this Sunday in the Eredivisie, and any result could be pivotal in the ongoing title race. Cambuur host Champions Ajax, Feyenoord take a trip to a strong Vitesse opposition and a struggling Heracles side host in-form PSV. All 3 games should offer high-class entertainment, with Vitesse v Feyenoord being the stand-out fixture.

Cambuur v Ajax

After a tough defeat to Barcelona midweek, and being the hosts of Lionel Messi equalling the all-time Champions League goalscoring record of 71 goals, Ajax will be looking to focus on picking up 3 points this weekend against a recently impressive Cambuur outfit. At first glance, this fixture seems like another easy victory for the Dutch champions, however, the home side have illustrated that they’re not for the taking this season as they sit in 5th place. A win for the home side could take them as high as third, so this game is equally as important for both teams. Looking at the form tables, the away side have recently been more impressive in the league. It was a disappointing start to the season for Ajax, but after their 4-0 thrashing over Dordrecht last week and their near perfect recent results, it would be a shock if they lost this tie. Taking all things into account, Ajax should win this game, but it won’t be easy as they face a very strong force in Cambuur.

Prediction: Cambuur 1-2 Ajax

Vitesse v Feyenoord

Feyenoord made a dreary start to this season’s campaign, which contrasted Vitesse, who have been steadily drifting up and down the table so far. Despite this, Feyenoord have finally found their feet after losing Ronald Koeman to Southampton, and have demonstrated what a magnificent side they can be on their day. The away side are hot favourites to steal all 3 points against an average Vitesse side, but the home team may have a trick or two to unleash on Sunday. If they want anything from the game, they’ll have to keep tabs on the likes of Jean-Paul Boetius, Lex Immers, Jordy Clasie and target-man Mitchell te Vrede. This game is the clear highlight of the weekend’s fixtures, but it’s obvious that Feyenoord are favourites to dispatch a weaker opposition.

Prediction: Vitesse 2-4 Feyenoord

Heracles v PSV

Heracles climbed from the bottom of the table last weekend after an impressive performance at GAE, in which they left with a 3-1 victory. After elation a week ago, they could be brought crashing back down to Earth as they host league-leaders PSV. Memphis Depay, who performed excellently for the Dutch national team during the World Cup, has made an impressive start to this season and will be one to look out for, as he could be the difference between the two sides. His ability to cut through a defence with strength and pace may be too much to handle for the Heracles defence, who may have to accept conceding a few on Sunday. Saying this, Heracles did pick up a win last week, so an upset may be caused; however, this is very unlikely. With Depay in such inspiring form, he could solely put Heracles back at the bottom of the table.

Prediction: Heracles 1-5 PSV
