Although favoured to win comfortably, the French struggled to find the net against Sweden, leaving it late to find the winner in Paris. Raphael Varane was named captain for the first time in his young career, aged just 21.

From the opening kick, it was a game dominated by France as they continued to slice open the Swedish defence, but failing to create any clear cut chances. Bacary Sagna produced the first real opportunity for France on 24 minutes but saw his effort fly past the top left corner. Time after time the French pressed for the opener but lacked conviction in front of goal, the majority of their shots failing to hit the target. Ten minutes before the break, Antoine Griezmann had a shot saved comfortably by Andreas Isaksson in the Sweden goal. The away side did come close at the other end just before half time as Mandanda got down well to stop Isaac Thelin's attempt on 41 minutes.

Half Time: France 0-0 Sweden: The first 45 was dominated by the French but the home side failed to capitalise and were poor in front of goal.

The 2nd period was a tale all too similar to its former as France continued to pepper Isaksson's goal but to no reward. The former Manchester City and PSV shot stopper was put to work plenty more after half time, having to save Gignac's effort just four minutes after the restart. With half an hour to play, Griezmann came close to breaking the deadlock yet again but was thwarted from six yards out. As the substitutions began to flood in throughout the 2nd half, they soon made an impact as Moussa Sissoko then saw his shot stopped by Isaksson, who kept Sweden in this match for most of it's entirety. Then seven minutes before full time, Raphael Varane would finally make the breakthrough, heading past the Swedish goalkeeper from a cross. 1-0 to France on 83 minutes and they never looked back as they held on to record another win for their bright, young squad. A disappointing performance from Sweden as they were without their talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but were dominated regardless.

Full Time: France 1-0 Sweden: A night to remember for Raphael Varane as he captains his country for the first time and scores the winner.
